The forms in these four collagraphs approximate female morphology and signify the feminine life-force. As seen in the works Flask and Tabernacle, the ragged threads simulate body hair and the openings within the forms are intimate portals to the sacred female. The stitched openings can refer to the consequences of childbirth, but for me the stitches more appropriately represent coils of DNA that pass information to the next generation. The structures in both pieces are like funnels or flasks, but the shapes and the contents are organic and refer to biology. Seeded Cloud with Boat is about the persistence of life, of organisms that are everywhere, not seen by the naked eye but become macro through the imagination of the artist. The boat is a womb carrying new lifeforms to a distant shore. The work, Containment Vessel and Witch Hat, is how the female biology has been seen at times as something to be feared, controlled, and demonized. For me, the witch hat is a symbol of resilience, defiance and intelligence.
