In the studio, I often ask, "Where does the continual desire, the compulsion to create art originate?" The process is not always easy, yet, as an artist, I process experience and translate encounters into visual language. I am curious about the strange potential visual language; in my case, a concoction of abstract and figurative forms has to communicate the quality of experience. Painting also provides me with opportunities to consider where vulnerability, sensitivity and generosity intersect creative actions. My studio work revolves around repetitious actions and variations on adjustment, removal, embellishment and demolition that lead to discoveries while painting. In successive layers, I impose solid shapes on a composition to weigh down, pin, or highlight, particularly striking passages which allow me to shift the image and continually move the process forward until the final image emerges.
