Jenny Dowd is an artist interested in objects that ask for interaction. Primarily working in clay, she creates objects for table, wall and floor surfaces as well as installations designed to interact with their space and each other. Sculpture, drawing and utilitarian pottery are part of Jenny’s quirky conversations where her relentless questions stem from science, daily oddities and observations.
Pottery asks to be used. A mug can sit on a shelf and look interesting and useful, but is not truly complete until it is being sipped from, with hands wrapped around its belly. The same is true for the other side of Jenny’s studio where she has been working to create a human-powered vending machine. The Cloud Factory grew from a tiny question: “What if clouds could be dispensed from a vending machine?” The Cloud Factory is interactive and mysteriously poses questions about the vending machine/black box. Mostly The Cloud Factory is meant to bring wonder and smiles into the hands of all who encounter it.
