My paintings are an invitation for viewers to encounter nature through the lens of my experiences and imagination. I first apply an absorbent ground on canvas or paper, then add layers of fluid paint to create a sense of mystery and depth. The colors blend in a way that can be unpredictable, evolving as they dry on the surface. I am continuously inspired and delighted by the landscapes and flora of Arkansas. My favorite time to hike is during the winter, so that I can see the lichen, mosses and tree trunks without the vibrant summer foliage. I am interested in translating the emotional experience of existing within the landscape through color and abstraction rather than documenting the exact appearance of a place. I hope that viewers will gain new perspectives about nature from my paintings that will inspire them to appreciate and protect it.
